The First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) is available to first home owners buying or building new homes.
In Queensland, since November 2023, FHOG has been $30k- however, this is due to return to the prior level of $15k.
First-time home buyers will need to enter into and sign contracts prior to 30/6/2025 to ensure they benefit from the higher grant amount of $30k.
To be eligible for the grant:
- Value of home and land needs to be less than $750k
- Grant is only available for new homes- a home that has not been previously occupied or sold as a place of residence or a substantially renovated home. (A substantial renovation is when all or most of the structural or non-structural components of a building are removed or replaced- it must be renovated before you buy it and must not have been occupied since the renovations)
- Purchasers must be over 18 and Australian citizens or permanent residents
- You must not have owned property before 1/7/2000 that you lived in or not, on or after 1/7/2000 that you lived in
- You must move into the home within 1 year of the completed transaction and live there continuously for 6 months
